Not one to be labeled or defined by any particular way of life, York Shackleton is not your average farmer. A little bit daredevil, a little bit rock and roll, with an innate entrepreneurial spirit, Shackleton has gained professional respect and notoriety across coveted industries that don’t commonly intersect, yet have provided a lifetime of experiences that have shaped his drive, determination and unwillingness to settle for anything less than the best in everything he does.
The native Californian was a prominent professional snowboarder in the early to late 1990’s, whose claim to fame included the infamous Rodeo Flip. He eventually took his tricks in front of the camera, appearing in several national commercials for Mountain Dew, Taco Bell, Airwalk, and more. Shackleton’s career segwayed into acting, and then eventually into film production circles, where he directed movies starring Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, and more. But where his heart and passion lies today is at High Star Farms, his 100-acre cannabis farm and retreat in Los Alamos, California.
Shackleton is a pioneer in the modern-day cannabis industry. His experience growing cannabis spans more than 20 years and hasn’t always been a straight path. He entered the cannabis scene early with the passing of the Medical use of Marijuana Initiative in 1996, and opened medical dispensaries in Los Angeles. Gaining a better understanding of the industry and recognizing a lack of consistent, high-quality products, Shackleton turned to cultivation, with large-scale grows near Monterey. Today his passion for the highest quality legal cannabis can be found in his fields at High Star Farms.
Shackleton is a descendant of the great Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton. He’s an avid aviator and continues film making to this day between growing seasons.
